Have you heard about PDO thread lifts? Are you curious about what they are? You’re in luck! Beauty by Nüvo You offers a medically supervised PDO Thread procedure right here in Miami Beach—The Nüvo Lift!
Below are highlights from a podcast that our Aesthetics injector, Ashley Calvo, did about PDO threads.
At Beauty by Nüvo You Medspa, we focus on performing noninvasive or minimally invasive procedures. We believe it is possible to enhance beauty without having to go under the knife. One of the ways we can do so is with PDO threads! A PDO thread lift is the ultimate alternative to a face lift.
What are PDO threads? How are they put in?
- NovaThreads, the PDO threads that we use at Beauty by Nüvo You, are needles that are preloaded with absorbable suture material/threads (polydioxanone).
- We make one injection site with a cannula needle where the thread needles are inserted.
- We insert the needle parallel to the surface of the skin, then pull out the needle, leaving the threads under the skin.
- We massage the site to ensure the threads adhere underneath the skin.
- We pull and snip the threads left outside of the skin very closely to the needle insertion site, causing an immediate lifting of the skin.
Where can I get PDO threads placed?
- PDO Threads can be placed almost anywhere in the body to treat loose skin or create a new look!
- The most popular PDO thread areas are the brows, cheeks, jowls, and upper neck.
- PDO threads can also be used on the forehead for forehead lines, under the eyes to lift sagging skin, on the midface for nasolabial folds, on lip lines, and on the jawline for more definition.
What kinds of results can you expect from a PDO thread lift, and how long do they last?
- You can notice an immediate lift to the PDO thread area and see it further develop 1-2 weeks after the procedure and once the swelling and potential bruising have resolved. The immediate effects comprise about 30-40% of the final results.
- Immediately afterward, the skin will appear smooth, hydrated, and volumized. You will begin seeing more dramatic results two weeks after the procedure.
- The placement of the PDO threads will stimulate your body’s immune system to naturally produce and regenerate collagen.
- New collagen will be formed for several months after the procedure, producing more firmness.
- The threads last about 1.5-2 years for their lifting effect as they are metabolized and dissolved by the body over 1-3 years.
Do PDO threads hurt a lot? Is there a lot of downtime and after care with PDO threads?
- Before the procedure, we will numb you with lidocaine, so the areas will not hurt when the PDO threads are placed. You may feel some tugging and tightness during the treatment, but you will not feel any discomfort.
- You could feel some soreness and tenderness where the PDO threads were inserted for about 1 week after the procedure.
- There is little to no downtime for a PDO thread lift. Puncture points from the PDO thread insertions will take 2-3 weeks to heal, so we recommend not having PDO threads done closer than two weeks before a major event or trip.
- After the procedure, you should avoid these actions for best results—sleeping on your stomach or side, wearing makeup, drinking alcohol, making extreme facial expressions, or having facial treatments and facial massages.
What are the advantages of getting PDO threads?
- PDO thread lifts are a low risk procedure, thanks to their minimally invasive nature. There is no need to be placed under general anesthesia, so there are no risks of adverse effects from anesthesia.
- Because you are not put under anesthesia, there is little to no downtime after the procedure, and you are able to resume your day!
- Placing PDO threads in the nose is much safer than injecting the nose with filler, since the filler is prone to moving and should only be injected by a highly skilled injector. PDO threads in the nose can lift the nose and create a non-surgical nose job.
- There is virtually no risk for scarring, severe bruising or bleeding after the procedure. In rare cases, patients may experience some scarring, infection, or visible threads underneath their skin.
- PDO threads are also a reversible procedure. If you desire, they can be removed.
