What are fillers?

· Fillers are injections into any desired part of the body for enhancing features like lips and cheekbones, and contouring areas like chins and jawlines.

· Many fillers are some form of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body. The most popular brands of fillers are Restylane, Juvederm and Revanesse Versa, all of which we utilize at BeautybyNuvoYou!

· Another kind is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), which is used for “vampire facials” and microneedling. A patient’s own concentration of plasma can be injected into areas like tear troughs, under eye circles and nasal folds. The plasma, which has growth factors, stimulates the body to produce collagen over time in the injected area, creating a layer full of collagen and slowing the signs of aging.

· Another more permanent filler is Sculptra, which is poly lactic acid that helps generate new tissue and collagen as you age.

How are fillers used?

· In the temples where you can have a hollowed appearance.

· Under the eyes to treat hollowness and dark circles.

· In nasolabial folds (the lines extending from the corners of your mouse to your nose) to treat the “smile lines.”

· In lips, for enhancement!

· On the chin and jawline to create a slimmer facial appearance or contour for a strong jawline.

· For anti-aging purposes, as an alternative to the surgical route. The earlier you start with fillers, the better, for their preventative uses. Fillers and Botox treatment will help stop deeper facial lines from becoming permanent and add volume to facial tissue before it is lost.

When is a good age to get fillers? How long do they last?

· The patients who have the most benefits are ones who start using fillers by age 30-40s. They are the ideal candidates since they still have some facial volume and collagen.

· On average, fillers last 7-12 months, depending on the product used and an individual person’s metabolism. You may hear some people say fillers last up to 2 years, but that is not the clinical average.

Why fillers? How are the different brands you mentioned different?

· The versatility of the hyaluronic fillers makes them customizable and accessible. The results are immediate for instant gratification! Since it is hyaluronic acid that is injected, if you do not like the result, it can be dissolved and metabolized by your body!

· Some hyaluronic products like Juvederm Volume and Restylane Lyft are thicker and are designed to penetrate deeper into the skin. They take longer to be broken down by the body and will last longer, for areas like the cheeks.

· Other hyaluronic products are smoother and more filtered, making them ideal for areas you would want to enhance naturally, like lips. Restylane Kiss, one of our favorite fillers, gives a plumping effect to lips but is smooth, leaving the lips soft and kissable.

How much are fillers?

· In Miami, the prices of fillers will vary by the specific product, but the average cost is $600-$650 a syringe.

· This pricing is for the FDA approved product administered by trained, licensed and board certified providers, like Ashley, PA-C and Simona, APRN.

· Beware of Groupon deals for fillers! These are a red flag for low quality product and work.

What should I look for when choosing a filler injector?

· Fillers are so common, especially in Miami! Your doctor, plastic surgeon, dermatologist, gynecologist, dentist, podiatrist, probably your nail or eyebrow salon offers fillers.

· However, just because it is so prevalent, it does not mean getting filler is as simple as getting a haircut or manicure! It is a medical procedure that should be performed by a trained and board certified practitioner who is experienced with neurotoxins (Botox) and fillers.

· Since it is a medical procedure, filler injections can have complications, though rarely. Complications occur even less often with an experienced, board certified injector who is knowledgeable about how to prevent and manage complications.
